Welcome to the Brainquiry client section
You - or your child - have just registered for a QEEG and
neuropsychological assessment with Brainquiry or the Brain
Resource Company. More information about the preparations for
the actual assessment and about the assessment itself can be
found on this page. The different steps are indicated in the
left menu - which you will have to finalize before the
actual assessment - depicted as Step 1 to Step 5. Below this
page you can find more information about the exact procedure
on the day of the assessment.
Before the
assessment
Preceding the QEEG and
neuropsychological assessment will take place you are asked
fill out an extensive Internet questionnaire before the
assessment, which is explained at Step
1.
On the day of the assessment
On
the day of the assessment there are some guidelines you have
to adhere to in order for the assessment to be carried out
reliably. It is very important that you strictly adhere to
these guidelines which can be found at Step 2.
The address information and route descriptions to the
different clinics can be found at Step
3.
More background information about QEEG and
neuropsychological research can be found at BRC
QEEG. Below a detailed overview of the procedures
carried out on the day of the assessment can be found to get
an impression. |
What does the assessment
contain?
The QEEG assessment involves several electrodes to be attached to several
locations on your scalp: Quantative EEG or QEEG. You will be
fitted out with a respiratory belt followed by a brief
questionnaire asking about how you feel that day. Then several
areas on your body will be cleaned by scrubbing (e.g. around
the eyes, on the cheek, neck, wrist, forehead and collar
bone) in order to have the electrodes adhere better and to
obtain a better signal quality. With the electrodes attached
to these areas we can pick up eye movements, muscle tension
and your heart rate.
 |
A 'cap' will be put on your head with 26
electrodes embedded in it. These electrodes will be
filled with a salty solution ensuring adequate contact
between your scalp and the recording electrodes.
Additionally two finger electrodes will be attached to
measure resistance between the fingers, measuring your
sweat rate. These preparations will take around 30
minutes altogether, followed by the test.
The task-instructions will be played to you via
headphones. |
This test battery will take approximately 1 hour. During
these tests you will be seated behind a computer
screen performing tests by pressing buttons on a button
box and watching the screen. During these tests it is
crucial that you relax as much as possible and are sitting
comfortable. Muscle tension and movement cause a lot of
artifacts in the EEG and should be minimized during the
test.
For parents of children being tested it is possible to
observe the preparatory phase and if required assist with the
questionnaires. When the tests are initiated one can sit in
the room adjacent to the test room and read something.
The cap will be removed after 1,5 hrs. and the client has a
chance to stretch the legs and fresh up. There is a
possibility to wash the salty solution out of your
hair. Then you proceed with the neuropsychological part
of the test, the IntegNeuro. an automated
neuropsychological test which takes approximately 45 minutes).
This test is administered in another room where you will be
seated behind a touchscreen and the task instructions are
being presented by means of headphones. After you are finished
your data will be uploaded to the head quarters in Sydney and
a report will be generated. The report is usually expected
within 1 week after the assessment, followed by an
interpretation of a specialized and experienced
biological-psychologist. This report together with the advice
will then be send to your therapist who will then contact you
to make an appointment.
